2018 Singapore GS Closing Ceremonies

Wow! What an incredible year Girl Scouts have had in Singapore as evidenced by our Closing Ceremony. The schedule was jam packed with awards, videos and speeches - oh my!

Dr. Hsein-Hsein Lei speaks to the girl scouts.

The event was kicked off with a flag ceremony conducted by Troop 82, followed by a powerful and funny speech by Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei, Vice President of Medtronic. She talked about her own experience as a Girl Scout and the opportunities for girls to be scientists. The girls loved her!

Our end-of-year video was also a hit, a great opportunity to show off all the fun and important things our 32 troops have been doing this year - everything from camping to horseback riding to community service and so much more. We also showed USAGSA’s powerful new PSA featuring some of the amazing women on the world stage who were Girl Scouts. We also premiered our own video, “I Love Being a Leader,” in which our own leaders talk about what Girl Scouts has meant to them. It’s meant to encourage others to step forward to lead a troop.

We handed out several Highest Awards and are incredibly proud of the girls who achieved them. Troops 34, 62 and 83 each earned a Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior Troop can earn. Gabrielle Gwee earned her Silver Award for her work with Causes for Animals, helping the shelter develop it’s social media platform. Check out our Highest Awards Map to see more information and videos about our girls' amazing projects over the years!

Seven of our adults were also honored with awards, recognized for their hard work and contributions to Girl Scouts. James Duckworth and Michelle Reeb received the Thanks Badge, the highest award an adult can earn. Melinda Murphy Hiemstra was given the Honor Pin, while Lakshmi Ramachandran and Mary Wheatley were given the Appreciation Pin. Ann Chow and Amelia Errington each were awarded the Volunteer of Excellence award.

Bravo to all! Click here to find out more about the Highest Awards, and here to learn more about our adult awards.

Cadettes bridging to Seniors.

The event closed with our traditional bridging ceremony, a time when Girl Scouts move up to the next level. It’s always fun to watch the tiniest Daisies cross the bridge and heart-warming to see our older girls still committed to the strongest leadership program for women in the world.

Next year promises to be just as amazing if not more so. We are all lucky indeed to be Girl Scouts in Singapore.
